How to rank higher on Google Maps

Google ranks local results on three things: relevance, distance and prominence. Distance is set by your real address. The other two are yours to work on.

Prominence · reviews and links

How to rank #1 on Google Maps

Nobody can promise the top spot. Google's own words: “There's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google.”

Prominence is the part that grows. Google bases it on how many websites link to you and how many reviews you have.

1

Share one review link

Google lets you share a review request link or QR code. Put it at the counter and on receipts.

2

Ask every customer the same way

Google's rules ban rewards for reviews. They also ban asking only your happy customers.

3

Reply to each review

Google says helpful replies can help your business stand out.

4

Earn one link a month

A trade association, supplier or local news page that links to your site. Google counts links in prominence.

Clinics. Ask every patient in the same words, and offer nothing for a review. Reviews stay on Google. The MAB guideline bars treatment testimonials in a clinic's advertising, and the MMC code calls words like “best” or “only” unethical. So keep reviews off the clinic's site, and list services by plain name.

Google's review policy also bars staff review quotas and reviews that name specific content on request.
